Client’s Challenge

Lanka Tiles was a prominent participant in the annual Architect exhibition. They have been continuously winning awards at the exhibition and wanted to compete with the continuously increasing competition from other exhibitors while they launched their new product range at The Architect 2024.

Project Deliverables

The project involved the development of a VR application designed to run seamlessly at the exhibition premises, engaging visitors in an immersive experience. The collaboration brought together a dedicated team from Lanka Tiles, including the Executive Designer, Brand Manager, Group Business Development Head, and IT department. Dynamic X Plus team, led by Dimuthu, played a pivotal role in asset building, content creation, and setting up the VR experience at the exhibition.

A VR game was developed with six different stages to deliver the feeling each product category intended to share. The participants were given the ability to explore each scene and to discover and enter the next scene. Since the available timeframe for each participant was limited the experience was designed to be lucid and effortless.

Challenges to the developers

The project encountered the challenge of articulating the client’s concept cohesively within the immersive realm of a VR game. Additionally, addressing the constraints posed by the available VR headsets was paramount to guaranteeing an optimal user experience. Striking a delicate balance within the exhibition timeframe was crucial, particularly in the endeavor to showcase six distinct product categories without overwhelming the users, ensuring a harmonious and engaging experience.

Tools and Technologies

  • Real-time rendering technology using Unreal Engine.
  • Utilization of Autodesk and Adobe software for asset building.
  • Meta Oculus Quest 2 served as the connected device to the computer.
  • The total cost for tools and software amounted to approximately 2 million rupees.

Innovations within the Project

Crafting the VR experience involved meticulous planning to captivate user attention within the immersive 360-degree environment. Attention to detail extended to defining the user journey’s speed, preventing any loss of information and ensuring a seamless exploration. The optimization of element scale was a strategic measure, enhancing visibility and contributing to a well-rounded and engaging virtual experience.

Evaluation Matrix

The VR application delivered a flawless performance, exhibiting a bug-free operation throughout the exhibition. Employing the highest attainable graphic quality, the visuals presented a realistic and immersive experience. The satisfaction of stakeholders, encompassing both Lanka Tiles and exhibition visitors, was notably positive, affirming the success of the project in meeting and exceeding expectations.
