Solidarity Behind Bars: Supporting Dementia Awareness through “Night in the Cells”

Community support and empathy are at the heart of what we do at Dynamic X . Recently, we had the privilege of supporting a very special cause in Cardiff that brought together local leaders, volunteers, and our very own team member, Piyumini, for an unforgettable night.

What is "Night in the Cells"?

The "Night in the Cells" is a unique fundraising initiative hosted by the Lord Mayor of Cardiff, Councillor Adrian Robson. The event challenges participants to spend an entire night locked in the historic cells of a police station.

It is designed to raise vital funds for the Lord Mayor’s nominated charities for 2025/26:

• Forget Me Not Chorus: An organisation that uses the power of song to support people living with dementia and their families.
• The Rescue Hotel: A charity dedicated to the welfare and rehoming of dogs.

Piyumini’s Personal Mission

For Piyumini, this wasn't just a corporate challenge; it was a deeply personal mission. Having seen the effects of dementia firsthand through her grandmother and her late mother, she wanted to take active steps to support others facing similar journeys.

Representing Dynamic X Plus, she traded her comfortable home for a night in the cold, tiled cells of the Roath Police Station. Her participation was a tribute to her family and a symbol of her commitment to social responsibility.
 

The Experience

The images from the event capture the reality of the night from the stark, graffiti-lined walls of the cells to the incredible spirit of the participants. Piyumini was joined by a group of dedicated volunteers, all working together to turn a difficult setting into a beacon of hope for the Cardiff community.

Through bake sales held at the office and the main "incarceration" event, we were able to contribute to a cause that provides dignity and support to those who need it most.

Making a Difference Together

At Dynamic X Plus, we believe that innovation in the built environment should go hand-in-hand with supporting the people within those environments. We are incredibly proud of Piyumini for her bravery and her heart for the community.
