Visualising an Extraordinary Future for Wales: The £200m Penrhys Regeneration
A Defining Milestone for Welsh Social Housing
In what stands as one of the most substantial community investments ever unveiled across the Rhondda Valley, Welsh housing association Trivallis has reached a major milestone in the £200m+ regeneration of the historic Penrhys estate.
Following an extensive procurement process, Trivallis has formally appointed Wates Group (Wates Residential) as their development partner to take this ambitious 10-year masterplan from technical proposals into active on-site delivery.
Spanning the next decade, this comprehensive programme will transform the area by replacing deteriorated post-war housing stock with up to 900 sustainable new homes, expansive communal green parklands, enhanced infrastructure, and a modern primary school.
We are immensely proud to announce our collaboration with the Trivallis, Stride Treglown, and The Urbanists teams, delivering the complete 3D architectural visualisation layer for this landmark scheme.
Transforming Vision into Reality: A Multidisciplinary Collaboration
Delivering an estate masterplan of this magnitude requires seamless alignment across architecture, urban design, and community aspirations.
Drawing directly upon the masterplanning framework designed by The Urbanists and the architectural typologies developed by Stride Treglown, our studio was commissioned to transform complex drawings into photorealistic visual narratives.
Our visualisation suite focused on several key priorities:
- Valley Topography: Faithfully capturing the unique slope elevations, natural light transitions, and countryside vistas distinctive to the Rhondda Valley.
- Human-Centred Streetscapes: Visualising safe, pedestrian-friendly neighbourhood avenues, private gardens, and shared civic spaces.
Community Anchors: Bringing clear detail to the proposed public amenities and new primary school, illustrating the long-term community value of the investment.
By translating intricate technical layouts into an accessible visual medium, our visualisations helped bridge the vital gap between planning consultants, council bodies, and the existing Penrhys community.
Phase 1 in Focus
While the broader regeneration encompasses a 10-year delivery horizon, immediate momentum centres on Phase 1.
Our 3D visualisations have been instrumental in presenting the visual identity and layout of Phase 1 to Rhondda Cynon Taf Council and local residents. Showcasing the first cluster of modern, energy-efficient homes and public landscaping, these assets provide clarity on how modern design standards will replace obsolete structures while preserving the close-knit character of Penrhys.
Leading the National Headlines
The release of the masterplan has captured national attention, with our CGI renders serving as the hero visual assets leading the press. Prominently featured across WalesOnline, regional broadcasts, and partner publications, our visuals have anchored public awareness and generated genuine excitement across South Wales.
Seeing the collective design work of Trivallis, Stride Treglown, and The Urbanists brought to life through our visualisations on the front page of national news represents a notable achievement for our studio.
The Journey Ahead: Looking Forward to Delivery with Wates Group
With Trivallis formally appointing Wates Group as development partner, the Penrhys regeneration transitions into an exciting phase of physical delivery. Wates brings extensive expertise in high-calibre residential schemes, urban regeneration, and local community investment.
We look forward to working closely alongside Trivallis, Wates Group, Stride Treglown, The Urbanists, and all key stakeholders as this extraordinary vision becomes reality for the people of Penrhys.
